Welcome!
Let the Perfect Dog find You and make Sure You are Ready. There’s Lots to Consider!
Adopting a dog is a deeply rewarding decision, but it also comes with lifelong responsibility. At Juno’s Den, we believe thoughtful adoption is the foundation of lasting, successful placements. Before applying, take time to honestly consider whether you’re ready to meet a dog’s needs emotionally, physically, financially, and long-term.
Every dog comes with a unique history, personality, and pace. They all need patience, structure, guidance, and time to decompress as they adjust to a new environment. Your lifestyle, schedule, finances, support system, housing situation, and willingness to adapt all play an important role in ensuring a dog can truly thrive.
Adoption is not about saving a dog alone—it’s about creating a stable, respectful relationship built on trust and commitment for the rest of their life. When expectations are realistic and intentions are clear, adoption becomes what it should always be: a meaningful, lasting bond that will make life more enjoyable for you and your new friend!
Frequently Asked Questions
How Long Does the Process Take?
From the moment we receive your application, we review it within 3 days to ensure the dog you’re interested in is a good match for your family and lifestyle. If it looks like a potential fit, you’ll receive an email to schedule a video interview via WhatsApp (we recommend downloading the free app in advance).
During the interview, we walk you through the entire process and answer any questions you may have. If the interview is successful and we believe you are the right family for the dog, we will check references and do a home inspection either virtually or in person, within the next 5 days and then send you the adoption contract.
Once the contract is signed, you can expect confirmation of a welcome-home date for your new companion. The adoption fees are only paid once you have your new family member in your arms!
For dogs traveling from Mexico, there are additional required steps, which may add up to approximately 3 extra weeks to the process and a travel fee that must be paid in advance to secure a flight.
How Much Does Adopting Cost?
We have a single adoption fee of $650 for all dogs, plus applicable travel expenses. Adoption fees and donations go directly toward rescuing dogs in need and providing them with medical care, food, shelter, and transportation. Every contribution helps us continue saving and caring for dogs who need it most.
What Is the Difference Between Adopting and Fostering?
Adopting means you have thoughtfully considered every aspect of welcoming a new family member into your home and heart, and you are fully prepared to meet all of your dog’s needs—financially, emotionally, and physically—for the rest of their life. Adoption is a lifelong commitment to fully integrating your new companion into your daily life.
Fostering requires the same compassion, care, and dedication, but with the goal of helping a dog transition into their permanent home with the right family. While fostering generally does not involve a financial cost, it does require a meaningful time commitment and the right mindset to support a rescued dog as they prepare for a bright future.
Will I need Additional Veterinarian Services?
In most cases, you will not need additional veterinary services at the time of adoption. Our dogs are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and microchipped before adoption.
In some instances—depending on a dog’s age, size, or breed mix—spay or neuter surgery may be safely delayed to ensure all health considerations are carefully evaluated.
For dogs rescued from Mexico, we also offer adopters the option to have dental cleanings completed prior to travel, when needed, at a lower cost than typically available in the U.S.
do you offer foster to adopt trials?
In some instances, we offer foster-to-adopt trials for selected dogs who may need additional time to adjust due to their background prior to rescue or concerns noted during their initial transition into our program. All of our dogs are carefully evaluated by professionals before placement to ensure that potential adopters are able and willing to meet each dog’s needs before making any commitments.
A foster-to-adopt trial provides extra time for both the dog and the family to determine whether the home environment is the right fit. These trials typically last 10 to 15 days. All requirements, expectations, and preparation sessions are discussed in detail with each family during the initial interview.
Please note that not all dogs are candidates for a foster-to-adopt trial.
